Rejection of Kamto’s candidacy : Anicet Ekane denounces a “political coup”
In a press release on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, the African Movement for New Independence and Democracy (MANIDEM) reacted strongly to the Constitutional Council’s rejection of Professor Maurice Kamto’s candidacy for the 2025 presidential electionConstitutional Council’s rejection of Professor Maurice Kamto’s candidacy for the 2025 presidential election. In an official statement issued on 6 August 2025, the party founder, Anicet Ekane, who is a leading figure, described the decision as a “political coup d’état”.
According to the document, the exclusion was orchestrated by an alliance between the Constitutional Council, the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT) and the ruling CPDM party. MANIDEM maintains that there is no legal basis for this exclusion, which it considers “profoundly arbitrary and contrary to democratic principles”.
